C’est trop risqué → It is too risky

Serré → tight
Mon budget est serré → My budget is tight
Ils sont vraiment serrés →They are really tight

Remboursable → refundable
Ce n’est pas remboursable → It is non-refundable

Quelle en fut l’issue ? →  What was the outcome?

Le souffle → breath
Vous me coupez le souffle → You take my breath away

Maladroit → clumsy
Pourquoi es-tu si maladroit ? → Why are you so clumsy?

Malpoli → rude  
Il est malpoli → He is a rude person

La roue → wheel
Il fit la roue → He did a cartwheel

La pente → slope
Il fixa la pente raide → He stared at the steep slope

La serrure → lock
J’ai crocheté la serrure → I picked the lock

Un chandail → a sweater
Elle lui donna un chandail → She gave him a sweater

La taille → size
C’est la taille idéale → It is the perfect size

Satisfaisant → satisfactory  
Est-ce satisfaisant ? → Is it satisfactory?

Engager → to hire
Personne ne va t’engager → Nobody’s going to hire you

Le blé → wheat
Ici, nous cultivons le blé → We grow wheat here 

La cheville → ankle
Je me suis foulé la cheville → I twisted my ankle

Insolite → unsual
C’est insolite → This is unsual

Agacé → annoyed
N’es-tu pas agacé par cela ? → Are not you annoyed by that?

Le pari → bet
J’ai perdu le pari → I lost the bet

Subir → to undergo
Notre père va subir une opération → Our father is going to undergo an operation

Le cierge → the candle
J’allumais le cierge → I lit the candle

L’appui → support
Je l’appuierai → I’ll support him

Raide → stiff
Je me sentis un peu raide → I felt a little stiff

Le micro → the microphone
Donne-moi le micro → Give me the microphone

Le rapport → the report
Il écrivit le rapport → He wrote the report

Vieillir → to grow old
Il ne semble jamais vieillir → He never seems to grow older

Reconnaissant → grateful
J’ai été reconnaissant → I was grateful

Nous sommes reconnaissants →We are grateful

Il obéit → He is obeying

Empoisonné → poisoned
Elle a été empoisonnée → She has been poisoned

Ne touche à rien → Do not touch anything

A tout prix → at all costs
Je veux à tout prix le voir → I want to see him at all costs

Etroitement → tightly
Je l’ai étroitement enlacée → I hugged her tightly

J’ai peur du noir → I am afraid of the dark

Inhabitable → uninhabitable
Cette maison et inhabitable → This house is uninhabitable

Cuit → cooked
Le poulet et cuit → The chicken is cooked
Le steak est bien cuit → The steak is well done

Le diamant → diamond
Il s’enfuit avec le diamant → He ran away  with the diamond

Faire profil bas → To keep a low profile
J’essaie de faire profil bas → I try to keep a low profile

Rechercher → to search for
Je dois rechercher mon stylo → I need to search for my pen

Apporte-moi les ciseaux → Bring me the scissors

Le marteau →  hammer  
Passe-moi le marteau → Hand me the hammer

Détendu → relaxed
Je me suis détendu → I relaxed

Ils se sont détendus → They relaxed

Le tournevis → the screwdriver
Où as-tu mis le tournevis ? → Where did you put the screwdriver?

L’avant → the front
Je m’assis à l’avant du bus → I sat in front of the bus

Soulagé → relieved
Je me sens soulagé → I feel relieved

Ils semblaient soulagés →They look relieved

Débrouillard → resourceful
Es-tu débrouillard ? → Are you resourceful?

Troublant → disturbing
C’est troublant → It is disturbing

Impressionnant → impressive
C’était impressionnant → It was impressive

En espèce → in cash
J’ai payé en espèce → I paid in cash

Offusquer → to offend
Je ne veux pas t’offusquer → I do not want to offend you

Interne → Internal
C’est pour un usage interne → This is for internal use

Le cerf → the deer
L’archer tua le cerf → The archer killed the deer

Le renard → the fox
Le chasseur prit le renard → The hunter caught the fox

C’est silencieux →  It is quiet

C’est une expérience → It is an experiment

Ferme le tiroir → Close the drawer

En vue → in sight
Personne n’est en vue → No one is in sight

Qui est le responsable ? → Who is the manager?

Jour ferié → public holiday

…qui constiste à… → that consists in…

Se lier d’amitié → to be friend

Abuser de quelque chose → to misuse something

C’est ce qui m’a conduit à faire quelque chose → that is what led me to do something

Les heures de bureau → office hours

à ce moment-là → at that time

Est-ce que cela fonctionne ? → Does it work?

Etes-vous seul ? → Are you alone?

Le connaissez-vous ? → Do you know him?

Est-ce que je t’ai fait mal ? → Did I hurt you?

Est-ce que tu te sens seul ? → Do you feel lonely?
