First we say the word bonjour which means "Hello, Hi"
Bonjour, à quelle heure ouvrez-vous le restaurant, s'il vous plaît ?
Hi, at what time do you open the restaurant, please ?
Bonjour, où est la Maire, s'il vous plaît ?
Hello, where is the City Hall, please ?
There is a difference between tu and vous in French
In general, we say vous
- to people we do not know (Teacher, someone in the street,...)
- when a child is talking to an adult (except his parents)
If 2 children or teenagers meet each other for the first time, they are going to use tu
2 people meet in the street:
Bonjour, savez-vous où est-ce que je peux acheter des livres dans le quartier ?
Hi, do you know where I can buy books in this area ?
Whe you want to ask for something
Excusez-moi, pourriez-vous me dire où se trouve la rue Klébert, s'il vous plaît ?
Sorry, could you tell me where is the Klébert street, please ?
Pardon, avez-vous l'heure, s'il vous plaît ?
Sorry, do you have the time, please ?
Je voudrais une baguette de pain, s'il vous plaît
I would like a loaf of bread, please
There 3 parts in the sentence that follow each other
1 - Excusez-moi / Pardon, s'il vous plaît
2 - Pourriez-vous / Je voudrais / avez-vous
3 - S'il vous plaît
To say "thank you"
Merci = thank you
Avec plaisir = with pleasure / my pleasure
-Merci pour le gâteau, cela me fait plaisir
Thank you for the cake, I am happy
-Avec plaisir
My pleasure
To say "bye"
Au revoir / A bientôt / Passez une bonne journée
Au revoir Mr Levallois, passez une bonne journée
Good bye Mr levallois, have a nice day
Je pars maintenant, à bientôt
I am leaving now, see you soon
